FAIRY DUST AND MATURE MAKEUP MAGIC FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON

Everyone's time is limited, and it’s even more so during the holiday season. I haven't added something to this page for quite a while, but to make it a short apology: we have moved country. From Sweden to France.
At this time of year, everyone is usually busy making plans for festive meals and get-togethers, and we also like to beautify our homes, dining tables and ourselves
Today I'd like to share a few ideas on how you can add some sparkle and ‘fairy dust’ to your festive season. Be confident and go from Gray to Sparkling Silver or Glamorous gold!
These tips do not only apply to ladies "of a certain age" - a la the French. If you feel you need a bit of motivational ideas and sparkly inspiration 💫✨🌟 to give your existing make-up a makeover and perhaps emphasize the sparkle in your eyes, then keep reading on. 😁
Here's an easy saying to remember: matte = flat. What you wear or apply that can be described as 'matte’ has a 'flat' appearance.
The answer? Use a touch of shimmer. I'm not talking about mermaid makeup with the sheen of fish scales. Here are a couple of beautiful descriptive words you can look out for on packaging: sheen, glow, radiance, luminosity, satin, sheer, etc. These are words that you will find on all make-up: under-foundation (primer), foundation, blush, eye shadow, lipstick.
THE SIGNS OF THE TIMES
What are the typical signs of aging skin?
Mature skin is more likely to show signs of dehydration, loss of collagen and even dullness. In addition, it loses color over the years and gets blemishes and lines instead.
Make-up does wonders for older skin, because as our hair loses color over time and turns gray, our facial skin also loses its youthful blush, lips and eyes become paler, and eyebrows don't lose color only, they often vanish completely 😅 .
MY 10 TIPS:
1. CHOOSE PRODUCTS WITH ADDITIONAL BEAUTY BENEFITS:
Be selective with product selection and try to find make-up that also contains active skincare ingredients, e.g. Hyaluronic acid, vitamins, C, E, jojoba oil, etc.

2. CHOOSE MAKE-UP in WARM INSTEAD OF COOL COLORS:
It not only looks softer, but is a substitute for the youthful blush that we lose over time.
3. PRIME FIRST:
A Primer is number 1 for mature skin. It is used under your foundation so that your make-up applies more easily, stays on better and longer and gives your skin an even color appearance
It can be described as a pre-primer.
There are many 'primers' on the market.
Palladio is an affordable brand with added botanicals and vitamins. It adds a glow and has a warm tint. Use it as a starting point to compare and measure others against.
4. FOUNDATION WITH SKINCARE:
Choose a foundation with added skin care products that will support anti-aging and benefit your skin’s health.
Age Perfect by L'Oreal is a foundation formulated with skincare products like Vitamin B3 and a Hydrating Serum to evens out the skin tone, gives all-day hydration plus SPF 50.
5. MAKING EYES
Our eyelids and the skin under our eyes tend to darken and/or become uneven in color - that's not even taking wrinkles in account 😅.
TIP: To mimic your youthful skin and get the best version of your eyeshadow color, you need to neutralize those parts first before applying eyeshadow.
Pick a neutral, warm but light eyeshadow.
• a soft, warm brown,
• peach pink or rose gold instead of rose pink
• champagne or gold instead of cool beige
• taupe, which is a warm grey.
Satin finishes look chic, while cream formulas give a softer sheen.
Step beyond challenging bright, dark or shimmer eyeshadow.

6. BLUSH AND FAIRY POWDER: ✨✨✨
Blusher and bronzer help to make dull and colorless skin look warmer and more youthful, while highlighter sprinkle a touch of fairy dust for a pretty sparkle.
Most blushes also have shimmer added.
Choose a cream blusher. Not only does the formula look better on older skin, but there are some that can be used on both lips and cheeks, like Palladium's. I like multipurpose products.
You can use a LIQUID bronzer to sprinkle gold, but choose and use it carefully, in a color no more than 2 shades darker than your skin tone.
Or instead use a liquid highlighter for a slight glow just gently on your cheekbones, a fingertip on your eyelids and another touch in the inner corners of your eyes. Everything subtle. A touch of shine goes a long way!

7. MASCARA IS MAGIC:
Mascara is magic and gives any woman's eyes a wink! Preferably use mascara only on the upper lashes. There is an abundance of choices these days.
My tip: I find that the curved brushes are designed to follow your eyelid line and therefore do not apply mascara in a straight line on your curved eyelid. It makes sense, doesn't it!
Do not overdo mascara. I read that the spider effect of an excess of mascara draws attention to fine lines around the eyes. It also makes sense, doesn't it.
8. LIPSTICKS SPEAK THEIR OWN LANGUAGE:
Make sure your lipstick formula doesn't make you look harsh and harsh. Over time, the vermilion line around our lips loses definition due to sun damage, collagen loss and fine lines around the mouth. Another one of those telltale signs of aging 🙄.
Consider this when choosing lipstick formulas and colors. To be a glamorous woman, stay away from lip colors in shades with a brown undertone or nude, which tend to take color out of your face.
Colors that give brightness and liveliness are: rose, berry, peach, even red or coral.
Clinique’s lipsticks are grouped in color groups: Nudes, Pinks, Violets and Reds/corals.
Maybelline describes their lipstick formulas as: sheer or satin, creamy, matte, lipstains or tints, glossy, frosted, tinted lip balm, and lip liners.
Sheer or satin: Translucent or satin lipsticks give your lips a soft and moist look.
Creamy: this creamy lipstick makeup lies between satin and matte. Creamy lipsticks have the wetness of a satin lipstick and the look of a matte lipstick. These lipsticks glide on easily and offer more coverage than the sheer or satin lipsticks.
Matte: These lipsticks are super pigmented and leave your lips with a flat matte finish.
My tip: if you struggle with dry lips and feel that nothing helps, you can try the Clarins lip treatment below. It's enriched with Shea Butter and Vitamin F. You can choose your favorite shimmery color to tint and moisturize your lips at the same time, plus it has a deliciously delicate vanilla scent. Not cheap, but it lasts a long time!

9. GLITTER IN YOUR GRAY:
Gray hair tends to be dry and dull. The solution: spread a drop of special hair oil through your hair. Your hair will not only shine, but the oil also provides nourishment and a bit of attitude. This L’Oreal Mythic oil smells divine, but there are many brands to choose from.

10. THE BRILLIANCE OF JEWELLERY: GOLD, SILVER AND DIAMOND OR CRYSTALS:
I find that metal earrings, or earrings made of sparkling diamonds or crystals, flatter and brighten my face more than jewels that have a matte appearance. Feel free to test it for yourself.
